Create videos

Let AI turn a link, text, or your own photos and videos into Reels and Shorts, or cut highlights from a long video into short clips.

Posteady gives you two ways to make vertical videos. Open Videos in the sidebar to see your videos and templates.

MethodUse it when
New Reels/ShortsYou want a new video from your source material or your own photos and videos
ClipsYou want to cut the highlights of a long video into short clips

With New Reels/Shorts, AI writes the script and adds narration or on-screen text, images, and music to make a new video. With Clips, you cut a long video, such as a YouTube video, a lecture, or a live stream, into several vertical clips that keep the original picture and voice.

The Videos page has four tabs: Reels/Shorts, Clips, My templates, and Posteady templates. The first two tabs list the videos you made with each method. You can create videos even without connecting a social account.

Create Reels/Shorts

Open the create panel

On the Videos page, click New Reels/Shorts.

Add your source

Choose Link, Post, Text, Topic, or File. You can use an article link or a YouTube link, one of your published posts, pasted text, a one-line topic, or a document such as a PDF. For a YouTube link, the script is written from the video's captions.

To make a video from your own photos and videos, use the Media tab. See Make a video from your own photos and videos.

Choose the language and topic

After your source is imported, choose the video's Language and the Topic, which is what part of the source to turn into a video.

  • Pick from several topics: click Find topics, and AI suggests topics from your source. Pick one.
  • Let AI pick one topic: AI makes the video about the best topic it finds.
  • Use the entire source: the video covers the key points of the whole source.

If you started from the Topic tab, you only choose the language.

Set up the video

Click Set up video, then choose a Type and Narration.

  • Type: the shape of the script. Choose Explainer, List, ranking & comparison, Story, Quotes & feelings, or Store & product promo.
  • Narration: choose Include to have an AI voice read the script. Choose Don't include to show the content as on-screen text in each scene, without a voice.

Background music and Captions are on. Turn them off if you don't need them. Without narration, the captions are the content, so you can't turn them off.

Choose media

Click Choose media and decide which images go into the scenes. If your source has photos or videos, you can pick the ones that must be used. Fill the other scenes with Free images or AI images, or choose Leave empty. You can also turn on web photos for real products, people, and places.

Choose a design

Click Choose design and pick the Basic design or a template from Posteady templates or My templates. If you leave Video title empty, AI writes it.

Review the script

Click Start planning, and AI writes the script. It usually takes less than a minute, and it keeps going even if you close the panel. When the script is ready, you can edit the sentences, reorder the scenes, and change the images in each scene.

  • With narration: click Choose a voice to preview and pick a voice, then set the Speaking speed. When you're done, click Generate narration.
  • Without narration: polish the on-screen text, then click Edit video.

If some scenes are set to AI images, the same button creates those images too. After you confirm the script, you edit the text scene by scene in the editor.

Open the editor

Preparation continues in the video jobs panel at the bottom right of the screen. When it's done, click that job to open the editor. To learn what you can do there, see Polish it in the editor.

If you closed the script review, open the video with the Review script status on the Reels/Shorts tab to continue.

Make a video from your own photos and videos

On the Media tab of the New Reels/Shorts panel, you make Reels or Shorts from photos and videos you shot yourself.

Add your media

Add photos and videos with Upload media or Add from library. Drag the items to change their order. Write a line or two in Memo about what you shot, and AI uses it when it makes the video.

Choose a type

Click Set up video and choose a type.

TypeWhat it does
Talking to cameraAdds captions to a video of you talking to the camera and cuts the pauses.
Skit, meme, challenge & dancePuts a short situation line at the top of your video and keeps the original sound.
Process & satisfyingAdds text to a video of a making process and keeps the sound from the scene.
Vlog & daily lifeJoins several photos and videos into the flow of a day and adds text and music.
Product intro & reviewShows the strong points of a product, menu, or store one by one.

Talking to camera, Skit, meme, challenge & dance, and Process & satisfying are available when you add only videos and no photos. They join the videos in the order of your items. For Vlog & daily life and Product intro & review, AI decides the order and the on-screen text. With Product intro & review, turn on Show as before & after to pair your items two by two and show each BEFORE scene followed by its AFTER scene.

Choose a design and start

Click Choose design and pick a design. Check the box to confirm you have the rights to the photos and videos, then start.

  • For Talking to camera, Skit, meme, challenge & dance, and Process & satisfying, click Prepare editor. Preparation continues in the video jobs panel, and then you edit the video in the editor.
  • For Vlog & daily life and Product intro & review, click Start planning. You review the script the same way as in Create Reels/Shorts, and then go to the editor.

Platforms may mute or block videos with trending music. Use sound you recorded yourself or music you have permission to use.

Cut a long video into short clips

Open the create panel

On the Videos page, click Create clips.

Add the original video

On the Link tab, paste a YouTube link and click Import. Or, on the File tab, upload a video file. You can upload files up to 3 hours and 10 GB, import them from Google Drive, or pick a video you uploaded before.

After the video is checked, you see its length and the Estimated cost.

Set up the clips

Click Set up clips and choose a mode.

  • AI mode: AI finds the highlights and creates clip candidates.
  • Manual mode: you pick the parts to cut yourself, without AI.

If you need to, set these options too:

  • Video template: a design for the title, captions, and layout. You only see templates with the same shape as your video (landscape, square, or portrait).
  • Target range: only the part you pick is imported and analyzed. The estimated cost is updated for that length.
  • Clip length: leave it on Auto or pick a length. AI mode only.
  • Playback speed: speeds up the video, voice, and captions. The pitch of the voice stays the same.
  • Subtitle file: add an SRT or VTT file to use its subtitles instead of automatic transcription.
  • Additional request: describe the scenes you want, such as "Pick only the funny moments." AI picks scenes from what people say, so it can't find scenes without speech, such as sports plays or scenery. AI mode only.

Start the analysis

Check the box to confirm you have the rights to the video, then click Find highlights. In manual mode, click Cut manually. The analysis continues in the video jobs panel. A 10-minute video usually finishes within 5 minutes.

Pick and create clips

When the analysis is done, open the project from the video jobs panel or the Clips tab. Pick a clip candidate in the list on the left, preview it, and click Create as is. You can also select several candidates and create them at once.

If AI missed a scene, go to that scene in Full video in the list and click Add range to add it yourself. In manual mode, you add the parts to cut the same way. If no scene matches your additional request, the project opens without candidates, and we refund the analysis credits.

Polish a clip

When you pick a clip, you can change its settings on the right. Your changes are saved automatically. The options you see depend on the template.

  • Title and Subheading: edit the text AI wrote, or turn off Show on video to remove it from the video.
  • Range: move the start and end of the clip. You can also use Set start here and Set end here to match the playback position.
  • Join another part: joins separate parts of the original video into one clip. You can join up to 5 parts, and they play in their original order.
  • Remove silences: cuts the parts where nobody speaks.
  • Remove original subtitles: finds and removes subtitles burned into the bottom of the original video. This uses more credits and takes longer to create.
  • Playback speed: changes the speed of this clip only.
  • Captions: turn captions on or off. For clips without a template, you can also pick a style, such as Word pop or Phrase.
  • Highlight hook: AI picks an eye-catching moment from the clip and shows it first.
  • Comment card: puts a card that looks like a viewer comment on the video. AI writes the comments, and you can edit them.

For more detailed edits, click Edit to move the clip to the editor.

Once you move a clip to the editor, you can change its settings and create it only in the editor, and you can't go back to the settings in the list. Set the template and silence removal before you move it.

Polish it in the editor

In the editor, you can fine-tune scenes, text, and sound. Your changes are saved automatically.

  • Overview: Reels and Shorts open in this view. For each scene, edit the script and on-screen text, change the photo or video, and add, delete, or reorder scenes. For a scene whose script you changed, click Re-voice to record new narration. In Entire video, change the background music and caption style.
  • Timeline: add media, music, sound effects, voice, captions, and text at the playback position, and change the length and position of each clip.

When you're done, click Render to create the video. If nothing changed since your last render, no credits are used.

Track progress in the video jobs panel

Analysis, script writing, editor preparation, and video rendering continue in the video jobs panel at the bottom right of the screen. You can go to other pages and still see the progress and results there. Click a finished job to open its video.

You can stop a clip analysis with Cancel analysis on the progress screen. We refund the credits it used.

Download or post it

Use the buttons under a finished video or at the top of the editor.

  • Download: saves the video file.
  • Create post: opens the post editor with the video attached. The video is also saved to your media library. Then post it now or schedule it the same way as in Publish and schedule posts.
  • Save to library: in the editor, saves the video to your media library only.

Video templates

Save a design, such as the title, captions, layout, logo, and outro, as a template, and use it whenever you make a video.

  • The Posteady templates tab has the templates we provide, and the My templates tab has the ones you saved. At the top of these tabs, you can switch between templates for Reels/Shorts and for clips.
  • Click Use this template on a template card to open the create panel with that template selected.
  • Click Create template on the Videos page to open the template editor. Set items such as the title, captions, layout, background, and outro while you watch the preview, then click Save to my templates. Click a template card to start from that design or to edit one of your templates.

Editing a template doesn't change videos you already made.

Credits

Creating videos uses credits.

  • Reels/Shorts: planning the script, finding topics, generating narration, AI images, and rendering use credits. Finding topics uses credits only when two or more topics are found. Choosing and previewing voices is free.
  • Clips: the analysis costs a base amount plus credits for each minute of the original video, and you see the estimated cost before you start. Each clip you create uses credits, and clips longer than 90 seconds and removing original subtitles cost more.
  • If an analysis fails or you cancel it, we refund the analysis credits. If you cancel a render while a clip is being created, we refund those credits too.

To see how many credits each feature uses, open the Credit usage guide on the Credit usage page.
